The Spokane Food Policy Council (SFPC) was established in September 2013 at the request of Ben Stuckart, Spokane City Council President. The Spokane City Council wants the SFPC to continue working on the “growth of a more resilient, more fruitful, more lucrative food system in Spokane and its related foodshed.” It is the intention of the SFPC to bring together community, government, business and agricultural interests to work on integrated and sustainable policy recommendations to strengthen our regional food system.The Spokane Food Policy Council has a diverse membership comprised of 16 individuals, farms and businesses, institutions and community organizations.
The Spokane Food Policy Council has adopted vision, mission and goal statements to guide its work:
Mission: To advance policies and initiatives that foster a resilient food system in the Spokane area; one that is healthy and equitable for its citizens, economy and environment.
Vision: A thriving community that values and cultivates a viable, inclusive, and prosperous food system.
